Pro Volleyball League announces schedule for the first edition
~ Kochi Blue Spikers take on The U-Mumba Volley in opening match of the league ~ <br><br> <br><br>Chennai, January 10, 2019: The Pro Volleyball League today announced the match schedule along with launching the ticket sales in a ceremony held on the sidelines of the finals of 67th National Championships in Chennai. The league, an initiative of Baseline Ventures and Volleyball Federation Of India, is set to take off on 2nd February with Kochi Blue Spikers taking on U Mumba Volley in a home fixture. The first season of the league will see six teams fighting for the title which will be lifted by the winner on 22nd February in the final slated to take place in Chennai. <br><br> <br>The first season will see a total of 18 matches where each team will play against each other in a round robin format. The 18 matches are divided in two legs to be held in two cities - Kochi and Chennai. The first twelve matches will take place in Kochi while the remaining six matches, including the two semi finals and the final, is going to be held in Chennai. The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Kochi and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai will be the two venues for the matches of the inaugural season of the league. <br> <br><br>Mr. Joy Bhattacharjya, CEO, Pro Volleyball League and VFI Secretary General, Mr. Ramavtar Singh Jhakar unveiled the match schedule of the tournament while Mr. Jhakar presented the first ticket of the tournament to ex volleyball players and Arjuna award winners Mr. Suresh Mishra, Mr. G. Sridharan, Mr. Dalel Singh and Mr. Amir Singh . <br><br> <br><br>The tickets have been priced at Rs. 300 while season passes will be made available at a 30% discount and the early bird tickets will be available at a 20% discount. All tickets will be available on Paytm Insider.in from today onwards, the tournament’s official ticketing partners. <br><br> <br><br>Talking about the league schedule and tickets, Joy Bhattacharjya, CEO, Pro Volleyball League, said said “ The ticket prices have been framed in a way to ensure maximum number of fans make their way to the stadium as the yardstick to measure a leagues success is only by the reception it gets from the fans. As far as the fixtures go, we have kept only one match a day so there’s not much pressure on the teams and there is enough recovery time between matches.” <br><br> <br><br>Present at the schedule and ticket announcement, VFI Secretary General, Ramavtar Singh Jhakar said “ I feel elated with the fact that our long term dream of executing India’s first professional volleyball league, is finally taking form. I would like to congratulate all organizers who have worked day in and out to make this happen. This February is going to be an exciting time for Indian volleyball as we witness one of the biggest spectacles for volleyball unfolding in India and now it’s time for the fans to come in full support and make this league a humongous success” <br><br> <br><br>The inaugural edition of the league will see six franchises vying for the title. Ahmedabad Defenders is owned by Bonhomie Sports Event Mgmt. Ltd., Kerala’s Calicut Heroes is owned by Beacon Sports while the Chennai Spartans is owned by Chennai Spartans Pvt. Ltd. U Mumba Volley is owned by U Sports, who also own a team in the Kabaddi league while Black Hawks Hyderabad is owned by Agile Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Thomas Muthoot owns the Kochi franchise called the Kochi Blue Spikers. <br> <br> All the matches will be broadcasted live on Sony Six and Sony Ten 3 and will be streamed live on Sony LIV.
